On most Alpha planes, this location is found on the GPS as "FARM." If not, please put it in as a USER waypoint by using the lat/long coordinates.

The grass runway is 9/27, its bearing almost exactly 090° and 270°. It is approximately 3000 feet long, with trees on the east end, and a few hundred feet of fields on the west end. The field elevation is about 30 MSL.

The Farm may be used only in day VFR conditions. If the weather is below VFR, inform dispatch, and plan as an alternate: ILG (New Castle County: Wilmington, DE) or EVY (Summit Airport: Middletown, DE). ILG is a Class D airport just on the southwest edge of the Philadelphia Class B. EVY is an uncontrolled airport about 10 miles southwest of Wilmington. The Sears / Bushnells prefer EVY.

Get weather briefing information from BWI and ILG.

Before starting your final descent, be sure that the TERRAIN INHIBIT button is activated.

TO FILE:
Flight Service will need a destination airport. A good one is 33N (the name of this airport is simply, "Delaware"). It is located 19 n.m. true east from The Farm. This will get you outside of the Washington ADIZ and within VFR shooting distance of The Farm.

If coming from the northwest, ATC may like you to go over BELAY intersection, which will keep you out of the Washington Bravo. However, this will put you smack through the Aberdeen Restricted Area, if active. They may therefore vector you south of that, and then head you on the way to 33N.

To file OUT of The Farm, you need a departure airport: again use 33N. Depart VFR, turning east to avoid the ADIZ, and pick up the clearance in the air. If you've gotten as far as 33N, try Dover Approach on 132.42. If still more to the west or north, try Philly Approach on 119.75

The house just south of the east end of the runway is not the house of Dr. Sears and Dr. Bushnell. To find theirs, walk directly south, past the house in the field, and into the trees.
