CHECKLIST:

• (Your IFR flight clearance should already have been obtained)
• (Complete run-up and before takeoff checklist, taxi to runway)
• Tell ATC you are "ready for release"
• Get clearance for takeoff, and initial heading, from Tower
• After takeoff, turn to the assigned heading
• When Tower so directs, switch to Departure Control frequency
• On first contact, tell Departure Control your altitude, and target altitude
• Follow Departure Control directions until told to resume own navigation
• Fly your route as given in your clearance
